Greetings from a layover in Orlando, on my way to Michael Murphy's Piano Bar in Oklahoma City, but last week I performed at Sweet Caroline's in Bossier City, LA. Not as imperious as Bossy City, and less so than Bossiest City (groan), Bossier City is close to Shreveport and is a friendly and bustling place along the Red River. Gambling is legal on the waters of the river, so there are several casinos in the area, drawing tourists from all over.
Sweet Caroline's itself is located in the heart of the Louisiana Boardwalk area, and is a relatively new #duelingpianos room, having opened late in 2023. The buildout is fantastic -lots of chandeliers, neon lights, comfy couches - and the staff is warm and welcoming. This past weekend was my second time playing there, and both times, the audiences have been engaging, rowdy, and very generous.
My partners were two duelers I'd never performed with before: Jon Brewer from Texas, and Elisa Carlson from Chicago. Jon is bloody hilarious (I haven't laughed as much at a show in forever), and Elisa is an absolute powerhouse: incredible voice, badass on the piano, and plays fiddle to boot (leave some talent for the rest of us, Elisa - ha!).
